Ceremony of Light

Many of our 6th Class girls took part in their Ceremony of Light last Wednesday. The girls as always were a credit to themselves their families and their school. The second of the Ceremonies of Light takes place this evening and we wish our girls the very best. This beautiful ceremony marks the penultimate step in their journey to Confirmation.

A Visit from the Dioscean Advisors

We were delighted to welcome Sr Maureen, Diocesan Advisor, to our school last Wednesday. Our 3rd and 4th Classes were delighted to chat with Sr Maureen and share their work on the Grow in Love Programme with her.

School Choir

Our School Choir will be performing at Córfheile na Scoileanna in the National Basketball Arena on Tuesday 5th March. All our welcome to attend this celebration of Primary School choral and instrumental music. Well done to our Choir girls for their commitment to their singing as they undertake additional rehearsals in preparation for this important event.

Credit Union Quiz

Well done to our two Credit Union Quiz teams who took part in the competition in Cherrywood Educate Together last Friday, February 23rd. The teams sadly did not advance to the next round but the girls had a fantastic time and came home with a wonderful goodie bag. We are so proud of all the hard work that went into preparing for the quiz!

Katie Kearney, Juliana Toole, Kate Marie Batten, Charlotte Hyland, Aoife Higgins, Sophie Marry, Ava Cahill, Hannah Carty

Hockey

Well done to our Hockey C Team on their first match against Guardian Angels on Monday. The girls showed off all the skills they have been learning in training and were a credit to our school.

Our A and B hockey teams play their last league match on Thursday against Scoil San Treasa. Best of luck girls!

Coding Workshops

During the month of February, our senior girls in 4th and 6th class took part in an 'Hour of Code.' The girls in 6th class had previously completed an hour of coding during STEM Week, so they further practised their coding skills.

In 4th class, our students were fortunate to welcome two ladies, Louise and Carolina, from Microsoft to facilitate a programme that is a one-hour introduction to computer science through fun activities. Louise has a daughter in Ms. Belton’s class and Carolina has a daughter in Ms. Coll’s class. The session began by setting up the Chromebooks and learning about what coding involves. The girls then moved to a website that took them step-by-step to create a fire, all using code!

They thoroughly enjoyed participating in these workshops and it has been fantastic to foster an interest in coding in our girls. We are encouraging a scientific mindset and cultivating critical thinking and problem solving. Thank you to Louise and Carolina for delivering these wonderful coding workshops. We loved having female role models who work in STEM.

More news!

Well done to the girls below in their recent competitions!

Well done to this girl in 3rd class (Ms. Codd) who won 1st place in the B# music competition.

Gymnastics success for two girls in 3rd class (Ms. Codd) at the recent Trojan Gymnastics competition.

Two girls in 3rd class (Ms. Cunneen) had great success in Abbotstown at the weekend. They took home these medals after competing in sprinting, relay races, the long jump and shot put!

3rd class collected, observed and examined soil samples. They compared and contrasted types of soil for colour, texture, strength, hardness and weight. They also explored the influence of soils and rocks on plant and animal life.

Our infants have been enjoying learning all about the number 5. They loved making sets of 5 out of different objects and using their whiteboard markers to write the numerals on the table!

"Down and around and then you stop, finish the 5 with a line on top!"

Respect for Our Neighbours

Parents are reminded that for the health and safety of our girls, there is no vehicular access to the school for drop-off in the mornings.

As a Green School we actively encourage our girls to walk, cycle and scoot to school. As 80% of our pupils live within 2km of the school, this is very doable for many.

Unfortunately, but quite justifiably, our neighbours frequently complain of inconsiderate parking on the roads close to our school.

Please use the Church car park if it’s on your route to school: parking at the Church is free to all families at drop off and collection times.
