Numeracy In Hollypark
Maths Week took place on the 12th-20th October this year. The girls had a busy week with Principal Problems, Quizzes, Queen of the Tables, Maths trails and Counting the Jellies.
Our girls have been busy problem-solving nightly in Hollypark. This year, we want to focus on Measurement as an area where we could improve most in. We hope to introduce measure to the girls’ Friday tests e.g. 1cm=mm? / 1cm=m? etc.
We will also focus on Measurement throughout the year e.g.
Oct/Nov: Area, Length, Time.
Dec/Jan: Money, Length, Time.
Feb/Mar: Weight, Capacity, Time.
April, May, June: Time, Area.
Maths Master Quiz - November 2019
On Wednesday the 27 th of November, The Maths Team participated in a maths quiz in St. Attracta’s National School. There were seventeen schools from the local area competing.
The quiz consisted of six rounds with six questions in each round, ranging from easy to hard. We had twelve minutes to complete each round, however in the last two rounds we were given an extra 3 minutes due to the difficulty of the question. We started strong in the first half and when we stopped for a break after three rounds, we were on a solid 16 out of a possible 18 in joint second place. After a short interval the quiz resumed with a new level of complexity. The following three rounds proved to be a challenge, but nonetheless, we stayed strong, answering 5 questions correctly in rounds 4 and 5. The last round was unlike any other maths we had ever come across containing six multi- step word problems and equations but we pulled through scoring a respectable 29 out of 36, only four less than the winners!
We had a great day out and really enjoyed ourselves. We did extremely well thanks to the
all the practice we put in and the amazing help we got from Ms. Sweeney, THANK YOU!!!
