Creative Schools Week

We really enjoyed celebrating creativity in our school last week during Creative Schools Week. The theme was Creativity Lives Here - and so it does!

A highlight of many highlights were our Live Art Exhibitions. Thank you to the many many parents who came to view. That meant so much to our girls.

And huge thanks to our PA who organised tea/coffee for all in the tunnel.

And more highlights of our week.....

Well done to Ms Lamont and team for their preparation and work for Creative Schools Week.

Soccer Tournament

Our 6th classes recently participated in a football tournament at St. Joseph’s Football Club. We entered three teams, with each team playing five matches. The girls were brilliant and really enjoyed the day!

Amber Flag

We are thrilled to have been awarded our second Amber Flag. Thank you to Mrs Marnell and team (staff and pupils) for their work in promoting the Amber Flag and for ensuring that once again our school has achieved this award.

A Message to Hollypark GNS from the Amber Flag Team:

Dear Amber Flag Coordinators & Committee,
Congratulations on being awarded the 2024/2025 Pieta Amber Flag!
Your Amber Flag Committee has shown great commitment in promoting positive mental health by encouraging teamwork and contributions from peers. Our team has thoroughly enjoyed seeing the results of your efforts through the wonderful initiatives you organised.
We hope that by taking part in the Amber Flag initiative, you will continue to raise awareness of stigmas which exist and the stressors on our collective mental and emotional wellbeing.
Thank you once again for all your hard work. We hope that the Amber Flag has impacted positively on everyone involved. It has been a real honour working with you all this year.
Kind regards,
The Amber Flag Team

Well done!

Well done to Sophia and her team who won a trophy in the Cabinteely Mini World Cup with Cabinteely FC!

Well done to Elizabeth in 1st class. She won a medal for coming 2nd in her Mini World Cup last weekend.

Voluntary Contribution

Thank you to the 278 families (that is 68% of all families) who have already given a Voluntary Contribution to the school for 2024/25. Each and every contribution is very much appreciated and will be used to enhance your daughters' learning environment.

Your Voluntary Contribution makes a real difference.

If you would like to help in any additional way with our school development,

(time, skillset, sponsorship) please let us know.

Library & Library Ladies

As the year draws to a close I wish to sincerely thank our team of Library Ladies who give of their time and energy to promote the joy of reading amongst our girls. The gift of a lifetime - thank you!

This year our Library Ladies also organised a visit from one of Ireland's most renowned children's authors - Marita Conlon McKenna - this was a a highlight of our school year and pupils and staff alike were honoured to meet with her.

To refresh our library, our Library Ladies are looking for donations of the following books (secondhand or new):

Harry Potter

Lord of the Rings

The Hobbit

Charlottes Web and any classics in good condition

The Babysitter Club

Lottie Brooks

Harry Potter

Sinead Moriarty books

Recent Diary of Wimpy Kid books

Scarlet and Ivy

Murder Most Unladylike books

Recent Daisy books

Recent Isadora Moon books

Marita Conlon McKenna books in good condition esp newer ones like Fairy Hill

As the library space is very limited, our Library Ladies would appreciate if you could please check with them before dropping in books outside of the above list. Hollyparkgnslibrary@gmail.com.

DE Recommendation: Wear a Wide Brimmed Sun Hat!

Parents and guardians, please read the letter below from the Department of Education regarding the recommendation that wide-brimmed sunhats be worn by all primary school children.

Follow Alannah, Carrie & Alice's example and wear suncream to school during the summer months! (slide to picture 3 to view the three Hollypark sisters!)

St Joseph of Cluny Open Day: Thursday 25th September 5pm - 8pm.

Traffic Safety

Morning & afternoon one-way system:

Reminders:

  • The school has received many complaints of dangerous driving and parking in the vicinity of the school. Children and local residents are being put at risk.

  • Please use Foxrock Church car park at drop off and collection times and walk the last 6 minutes with your child.

  • Deansgrange Cemetery has requested that our parent body do not park and stride from the Cemetery carpark.

  • 80% of our pupils live within 2 kilometres of our school. Please encourage your older children to walk with their pals to and from school.

  • Please ensure that younger children are held by the hand when walking with them to and from school.

  • Please do not block the driveways of local residents when parking. Many of our residents – often elderly - are virtual prisoners in their own homes at drop off and collection times. And when they speak up are often subject to abuse.

  • In the event of an emergency, when cars are parked illegally, it is unlikely that a fire tender or ambulance would be able to access the schools, or any homes in the vicinity.

  • Hollypark GNS & BNS understand and appreciate how busy the roads are each morning. We continue to engage with DLR & An Taisce, Safe Routes to School, for a safer school zone.
