Literacy Week

We had a wonderful kickstart to our academic year with Literacy Week.

Tara Book Fair was a tremendous success – almost €8000 was spent by our supportive parents so that our school now has almost €4000 in commission to spend on updating class libraries.

A very special thanks to our Library Ladies and to all of the parents involved in making sure this week went so well and to Ms Marnell and her Literacy Team – a job well done.

Library will recommence for 2nd- 6th shortly.

We are delighted that one of our parents has very generously donated a library barcoding system to our school. This will make it much easier for our hard-working Library Team to keep track of our books.

Míle buíochas.

And finally we are delighted to announce that we will continue our partnership with a school in Nigeria – ‘Connect with Africa’ where we send our pre-loved books to children who are much less fortunate than our own.

This year we hope to extend that partnership by linking our senior girls directly with the Nigerian pupils in a Penpal scheme.

Gaelic Teams

Last Wednesday our Gaelic teams played against Colmcille’s Knocklyon.

We had mixed fortunes; our B Team was narrowly beaten while our A Team won.

Well done to the two teams and to their coaches.

Please note our updated After-School Activities Schedule which is on the website. Many of the classes are now full but it might help with planning for the second term after Christmas.

Our school has been declared a Nut-Free Zone.

As anaphylactic shock can be life-threatening, please help by doing the following:

  • Do not give your children nuts in school lunches

  • Do not give peanut butter sandwiches, other spreads containing nuts such as Nutella and snacks/bars containing nuts or labelled “may contain nut traces” in school lunches.

  • No pesto can be allowed

  • Please remind your children not to share their lunches

Headcheck Wednesday:

Don’t forget to regularly fine-comb your daughter’s hair!

We are delighted to welcome back Fr Kieran Dunne as Parish Priest to Foxrock Parish and are looking forward to celebrating our Opening of the School Year Mass with Hollypark BNS on Thursday 26th September @ 11:30am.

(Classes in attendance: 4th, 5th & 6th)

All parents are welcome to join us.

Walk (scoot/cycle..) to School on Wednesdays

Well done to all our young ladies and their parents for making such an effort

to Walk (scoot/cycle..) to School on Wednesdays.

Not only does this reduce traffic in the vicinity of the school, it is also good for the girls’ physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

Watch out for more news on walking to school in the coming days!

Golden Boot

Meanwhile well done to Ms Mulvaney’s 5th Class for winning the Golden Boot in our first week back and to Ms Burns Dooley’s 5th Class who were winners in the second week.

Will 5th Class continues to dominate or will a younger class outwalk them this Wednesday?????

Aladdin Connect

As flagged in an email last week we will shortly be rolling out Aladdin Connect.

Aladdin Connect is a user-friendly way to enhance our school’s communication with parents. It enables parents/guardians to stay connected and informed about their children’s education. It will also reduce our paper bill – good for our bank balance, but perhaps more importantly - our planet.

Keep up-to-date

Please ensure that the school has your up-to-date contact details.

You can check with Suzanne in the office if you are unsure.

Congratulations to all our Junior Infants who are making such huge strides in their first few weeks in Hollypark.

Thursday 19th September will be Independence Day in Hollypark GNS

we hardly need it as most of our girls are managing very well.

We will, of course, continue to have our 6th Class girls on hand to assist any Junior Infant who is still a little daunted.

Rest assured once they get into class there are smiles all round and the transition over the doorstep is well and truly forgotten.
