Extra Curricular

The teachers of Hollypark provide a broad range of subjects in line with Department of Education guidelines and have implemented the New Curriculum.

The children are also introduced to a range of other activities both during school and after school, which aim to develop and encourage each child’s talents and provide a good basis for future learning.

Specialist teachers within our school

Speech & Drama

Eva Coffey is our specialist Speech and Drama teacher. She teaches every class in our school for a dedicated drama lesson each week. The girls learn techniques for public speaking, poetry and storytelling while also placing emphasis on clarity, clear speech and pronunciation.


PE

Aled Hughes is our specialist PE teacher who takes each class for a PE lesson each week concentrating on the various strands of the PE curriculum. He develops athletic young children through his business CODEX KIDS and exsportise.

Gaelic Football

Coaches from Foxrock Cabinteely GAA club come on a weekly basis to our school and teach the girls Gaelic Football in school. Our school has developed strong ties with the Foxrock Cabinteely GAA club. French

Hollypark GNS has very close ties with Lycée Français d’Irlande (http://www.lfi.ie/IndexE.html) which is located adjacent to our school. We have a long established relationship with the French school and teachers from the Lycée teach the girls in Hollypark French in 4th, 5th and 6th class during the school day.

  

 New computer suite

Computer Room

Our new computer suite was built in 2006. Each of our classes has a dedicated time to attend the computer room and practice their IT skills.  We currently have 4 interactive whiteboards in our school. We hope to add to this number over the next few years.

The infants


Irish Dancing

Grainne McCormack (A.D.C.R./ T.C.R.G.) & Fergal Fay (A.D.C.R./ T.C.R.G.) from the McCormack & Fay School of Irish Dancing teach Irish Dancing on Tuesdays at 1.20pm for the infants. Classes run til 2.15pm. At the end of the term the children put on an Irish dancing show for the parents.


Kindermusik

KinderMusik is taught by Cynthia O’ Mahoney. KinderMusik aims to develop a strong musical foundation by learning the concepts, language, notation and vocabulary of music and its great composers in a fun, relaxed class environment. Extra Curricular Activities for 1st to 6th class

Irish Dancing

Grainne McCormack (A.D.C.R./ T.C.R.G.) & Fergal Fay (A.D.C.R./ T.C.R.G.) from the McCormack & Fay School of Irish Dancing teach Irish Dancing on Tuesdays at 2.20pm til 3.20pm. At the end of the term parents can attend an Irish dancing show in the school hall.

Minisports
Minisports is open to all children from 1st class to 6th class. It is currently on Mondays, Wednesdays and
Thursdays at 2.20pm until 3.20pm. Classes normally take place in the school hall and are taught by experienced and qualified teachers. Children participate in a wide range of sporting activities and co-operative games.  

 

Basketball                                                                       

Basketball is taught after school by Ms. Candon, Ms O’ Donoghue and Ed Randolph. It is available to girls from 4th class upwards. There is a school team which takes part in a primary school league, playing matches against primary schools in the final school term.


Hockey                                                                    

Hockey is taught after school by a selection of experienced teachers. The classes take place in nearby Loreto College where there is an Astro turf playing field. The girls practice drills and are taught the necessary skills of the sport. Hockey matches are organized between local schools throughout the year. Our school team also takes part in an interschool league.

     

Gaelic Football                                                            

Gaelic Football is taught by Pat Ring and two of our teaching staff; Ms Candon and Ms Carey. Ms Candon and Ms Carey played for Foxrock Cabinteely GAA Club with former past pupils of Hollypark and went on to win the All-Ireland Junior Ladies Club championship in 2007. There is also a school Gaelic football team who take part in football leagues each year. Children in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th can join after school Gaelic coaching classes.

Music Lessons                     

Music lessons are on Wednesdays after school with Ms Coughlan. Classes take place within the school. Guitar, recorder and flute lessons are offered to children from 1st to 6th class. The children are also given an opportunity to perform for the school at end of term.                       Click on Application Form picture to download

Swimming                                                                 

Swimming classes are arranged outside school hours by the Parents’ Association in a local swimming pool in Stillorgan. Information regarding the swimming lessons is distributed at the beginning of the school year.  http://www.glenalbyn.ie/swimming_pool.htm

 

French                                                                    

French lessons are also available after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. These classes are open to children from 1st to 3rd class and are taken by experienced and qualified teachers. In these lessons we focus on speaking and communicating in French while also developing an interest in the language. French is taught using various games and activities with an emphasis on enjoyment and fun.


Camp Live Wire

Camp Live Wire is our Summer Camp which takes places every summer.
