Hockey News                          March 24th

                                    Hollypark -v- Whitechurch
                                                                     0               4

On Tuesday 24th March Hollypark Division 2 team gallantly took on a very strong Whitechurch team. Hollypark went toe to toe with them for the majority of the 1st half but the writing was on the wall as Whitechurch forced saved after save out of keeper Aoife Kane, who had an outstanding game and kept Hollypark in the match. An injury to key defender Sarah Collins forced Hollypark to make positional changes. Whitechurch broke the deadlock with a well taken goal and led at half time by a goal to nil.

The second half saw more of the same pressure for Hollypark but Ms.Candon's team never gave up and worked together until the final whistle. Hollypark's defence came under severe pressure throughout the match resulting in a fine display from Alice O'Flynn and Keeper Aoife Kane once again. Whitechurch profited from their pressure netting three more well taken goals. Hollypark were committed right to the end and were convincingly beaten by a much physically stronger and more experienced Whitechurch team. This was an unfortunate end to and almost flawless league campaign. The team and Ms.Candon would like to thank all the parents for their support during the league campaign.

Hollypark Team: Aoife Kane, Evonne Farrell (capt), Alice O'Flynn, Sarah Collins, Emma Keating, Aisling Cullen, Rachel McAuley, Kate Grennan, Yasmin Mackey and Isabelle Banks.

Senior Infants School Tour:    March 11th

The senior infants went on a tour on Wednesday March 11th to Number 29 Fitzwilliam Street, the Dublin Georgian House Museum. All 3 senior infant classes travelled into town together on a double decker bus. We were taken around the house in small groups by guides. The girls saw a kitchen, dining room, drawing room, bedroom, nursery and pantry from the Georgian era.

After the tour of the house we went to Merrion Square for a picnic and enjoyed the first nice, sunny spring day we have had this year. We also had a bit of time to play in the playground.

Our School Concert                     March

This year Hollypark girls treated friends and family to an amazing concert. Second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth class students of our school performed an amazing variety of entertaining plays, songs, poems and dances. The tickets sold out very quickly and an extra performance was arranged to cope with the huge demand. The positive response from parents has been tremendous and the efforts from both the children and staff of Hollypark has to be acknowledged. Well Done!

4th Class perform ABBA

3rd Class performance                                                5th and Class class performance

Spring has arrived !!!

Our foyer was brightly decorated by our talented and creative team of Special Needs Assistants. The artwork was done by Ms Carey’s, Ms McHale’s and Ms Foy’s Senior Infant classes. The foyer is now bright and cheery! Thanks to all involved!

The paintings

Paul Francis is the artist we have to thank for brightening up the tunnel area at the top of the school. The theme of the 3 paintings is the History of Education. He has done a great job and we are thrilled with his creations. He also designed and created our new backdrop in our hall. It is a Dublin street scene and it really adds to the stage. Many parents saw the new backdrop in use at our school concert at the beginning of March and were all very impressed with it. A Christmas scene is also being designed at the moment and we look forward to using it for our nativity concerts.

World Book Day:                    10th February

Liam Farrell who writes children’s stories came to our school to talk about his books. Liam has written books based on traditional tales with a twist. The infants were treated to a rendition of ‘The true story of the 3 little pigs’ where we learnt that the wolf wasn’t really ‘the baddie’ the pigs made him out to be. Liam spoke to us in costume as the wolf and really made his stories come alive. All classes in the school from junior to senior end watched Liam in action and were thoroughly entertained.

Chinese New Year:                   26th January

Thanks to the efforts of Mrs Doran and Mrs Carthy we got to celebrate the Chinese New Year in style. Both teachers transformed our foyer area into a sea of Chinese lanterns, fans and dragons. The infants were enlisted to help out and the results were amazing.
