A Green School
St. Patrick's Girls' National School, Hollypark achieved the honour of becoming a Green School in 2007. This was due to the hard work,
enthusiasm an dedication of: the Green schools committee, all of our pupils, parents and staff in reducing waste and increasing recycling.
What does it means to be a Green
School?:
The aim of Green-Schools is to increase students’ and participant awareness of environmental issues through classroom studies and to
transfer this knowledge into positive environmental action in the school and also in the wider community. Schools that have successfully completed all the elements of the programme are
awarded the ‘Green-Flag’. This award has now become a well-recognised Eco-Label. The award has to be renewed every two years.
The Minister for Education and Science, Mary Hanafin raised the Green Flag for Hollypark G.N.S on June 22nd 2007. Everyone was very
excited and proud to welcome her to our eco-friendly school. As we are extremely pruod of this award we are continuing in our efforts to keep the standard of waste management high at Hollypark.
Our Green Schools committee is made up of pupils and staff from a range of classes, they meet regularly to give feed back and offer suggestions
on behalf of their classmates. The inspirational and practical ideas suggested by our pupils are excellent.
